Uncle Ron and Me
I knew that the 43rd day of 2023 would be the day I broke my streak of non-posts. Sorry for the busyness of life (mainly work) that is taking my time and sapping my inspiration for posts. But, on 2/12/2023, I knew I was going to post. I THOUGHT it would be about the Superbowl and the Eagles but, today's 23 and me is not about that (and not because they lost). No, the Family Sherr experienced a larger and more significant loss today, and that is why my post is about Uncle Ron and Me. Yes, friends, that means that DJ Rockin' Ron Sherr passed on from this life today. He fought his sicknesses for a long, long time and he lived a long, full of music and joy, life up until the end. My favorite Ron memory is when people told me they loved that my brother was such a good DJ for the Middle School dances. Yep - my in-his-70s uncle could pass as a guy in his 40s. Because Ron's joy and love of music and photography and making people happy (and dancing) truly kept him young at heart (and, I think, gave him the strength to fight through illness). I have great appreciation for Emily Sherr- Rubin and Sara Sherr who made sure I knew what was happening this past week. And I have love and appreciation for Sarah Jayne Sherr who made sure I got over to see him and my cousins on Friday evening. AND I have so much appreciation for the ministry of Michael Roca-Caine, my Pastor, who became the pastoral influence and spiritual guidance my whole family needed in these last days. It's not easy to say goodbye to someone who is larger than life, and that was DJ Rockin' Ron. I will have priceless memories forever of his events and the picnic park and the spirit of the Unofficial DJ of Oaklyn Events. Ron will be missed but, as the saying goes, his memory will be a blessing to me and many more. Here is a pic of him and me from AGES ago. Such a cool guy, such a cool Uncle, such a fine human being - my Uncle Ron. A lot of sad people down on Earth tonight, but the Dance Party in Heaven must be ROCKING tonight. I love you, Uncle Ron, and hope you knew how much while you were here.
